ACE Outreach Ensemble Program (invite only)

This class is part of Circus Place’s new Outreach Performance program, ACE, giving students a higher level of intensive training including a variety of core skills in acrobatics, conditioning and equilibristics, as well as the disciplines of the student’s choice in either ground or aerials.

  • The Monday class is dedicated to the ACE Aerial Ensemble students, giving them various aerial skill building, but mostly focuses on act creation for various outreach performances.
  • The Wednesday class is dedicated to the ACE Ground Ensemble students, giving them various manipulation and ground skill building, but mostly focuses on act creation for various outreach performances.
  • The Tuesday and Saturday classes is for all ACE Ensemble students, giving them various core skill building in conditioning, acrobatics, equilibristics, movement and performance.
  • ACE Ensemble students must commit to 6 hours of ACE classes (Tuesday and Saturday, plus either Monday or Wednesday) to participate. Students can also take all 8 hours of ACE if desired.

The ACE program is currently invite only.

Acroyoga

No previous experience required.
Calling all yoga friends! Acroyoga is a physical practice which combines yoga and partner acrobatics. Though similar to Partner Acro, Acro Yoga focuses on the physical and mental health benefits of the two disciplines. In addition to the exercise and strength building, partner balancing can improve concentration and stress relief.

Advanced Aerials (invite only)

This class is for our most advanced students, who have studied aerial skills for at least eight sessions and have completed at least a level 2 or 3 class in each apparatus (silks, lyra and trapeze). Prior experience with rope and aerial duos is also taken into consideration for this class. Due to the advanced level and wide scope of training required, this class will be invite only until further notice.

Aerial Cube

This class is for students with prior static bar or vertical apparatus experience. We will start with a dynamic warm-up and focuses on more advanced skills including; dynamic movements, strength skills, rolls, transitions, sequencing and partner work. There is a very strong emphasis on technique as well as performance quality in the execution of each skill. The class finishes with conditioning and a deep stretch. Recommended prerequisites for this class: minimum of 6 aerial semesters and can execute the following skills with core control and solid technique:

  • invert (pike) under the bar from hollow body hang (no jumping/pushing off floor or touching feet to bar)
  • unassisted knee beats
  • pullover to front balance for 30 seconds
  • 10 long beats (hands on bar)
  • 5 pull ups

Aerial Sampler Adults

No previous experience required. Recommended prerequisites for this class: None
This is a great introduction to the excitement of being in the air! Designed specifically for beginner adult aerial students who want to try it all! In this class you will learn skills on a variety of aerial apparatuses including: silks, trapeze, lyra and hammock. No experience is necessary and beginners are highly encouraged. Positive feedback and encouragement at every step! This class is required to take before any level 1 aerial class unless coach permission given.

Aerial Sampler kids/teens

No previous experience required. Recommended prerequisites for this class: None
This is a great introduction to the excitement of being in the air! Designed specifically for beginner aerial and acrobatic students who want to try it all! In this class you will learn skills on a variety of aerial apparatuses including: silks, trapeze, lyra and hammock as well as basic acrobatic skills including: tumbling, partner acro, acro-balance, flexibility, hand-balance and pyramids. No experience is necessary and beginners are highly encouraged. Positive feedback and enthusiasm at every step! This class is required to take before any level 1 aerial class unless coach permission given.

Beginner Balance

No previous experience required. Recommended prerequisites for this class: None
For first time students or students with less than 3 semesters of experience. This class is all about ALL types of balance! Students will learn how to master the tight wire, walk tall on stilts, learn the basics of unicycle, rolling globe, and the wobbly rola bola! Great for core strength, body awareness, alignment, focus and concentration. Each class consists of a dynamic warm-up, skill building, collaborative play, and occasional improvisations and act creation.

Advanced Balance

This class is for students with previous balance experience. This class will expand upon various balance apparatuses, focusing on more advanced skills on the tight wire, walking globe, stilts and more. Each class consists of a dynamic warm-up, skill building, collaborative play, and occasional improvisations and act creation. At least 3 semesters of balance classes required or the coach’s permission to take this class.

Circus 101

No previous experience required. Recommended prerequisites for this class: None
All things Circus for the very beginner! Learn the basics of juggling, tight wire, balance, plate spinning, stilts, unicycle, acrobatics, pyramids and so much more. Discover all the circus has to offer! Each week will focus on one to two specific skills. This is a great introduction if you’re new to circus or just want to learn it all!

Circus Fight Club / Stage Combat

POW! BAM! WHOOSH!!
No previous experience required. Recommended prerequisites for this class: None
Learn the basics of stage combat used in films, tv shows and clowning! We will learn the basics of solo, trips, falls, slips and tumbles, as well as duo combat, slaps, punches, throws and kicks. This is perfect for those interested in acrobatics, acting, clowning and parkour. Come dressed to move and fight with us!

Circus Performance Class

Take your circus performances to the next level! Using theatre techniques, this class will train students in the basics of performance, interacting with an audience, and finding ways to polish a circus act. Skills explored will include; finding the ‘breath’ of a piece, character creation, understanding the space, interacting with a partner and group, and ways to keeps audiences engaged. No previous experience required, but choreography skills or having finished acts prior to class is a plus.

Circus Sprouts ages 4-6

No previous experience required. Recommended prerequisites for this class: None
Our cutest class for our littlest students! Youngsters will have the opportunity to discover and explore a variety of circus arts including: aerials, acrobatics, ground props & balance skills. Introduce your little one to all the wonder of circus while building coordination, focus, balance, hand-eye development and body awareness. Each class consists of a dynamic warm-up, skill building, collaborative play, improvisations and act creation.

Clowning

No previous experience required. Recommended prerequisites for this class: None
Hop in the clown car and ride with us with our clowning class! Come learn the basics of clown technique and clown logic inspired by both European and American clowns. Learn how to fall, slip, bump, trip, and roll over laughing all the while learning how to establish clown sketches for performance. Earn your red nose and find the clown character in you!

Contortion

No previous experience required. Beginners welcome and encouraged!
Time to get bendy! This class focuses on increasing flexibility, improving control and balance, and learning contortion moves. Students must be comfortable with splits and backbends, but you do not need to be a contortionist to attend this class!

Dance Conditioning

No previous experience required. Recommended prerequisites for this class: None

Using dance, this class will help condition the body for circus skills; including acrobatics, aerials, balance skills and contortion. A great way to get in shape, get bendy and work on physical awareness and coordination.

Flexibility and Strength with Dance

No previous experience required. Recommended prerequisites for this class: None
Want to get bendy and strong, but don’t like going to the gym? This class will help you gain strength and flexibility through dance, making exercising fun along with growing with others as a team. This class will use dance to strengthen various muscle groups, and to stretch in ways that you can’t get anywhere else.

Flexibility and Strength with Aerials

No previous experience required. Recommended prerequisites for this class: None
Want to get bendy and strong, but don’t like going to the gym? This class will help you gain strength and flexibility using aerial equipment, making exercising fun along with growing with others as a team. This class will use aerial silks, trapeze and lyra to strengthen various muscle groups, and to stretch in ways that you can’t get anywhere else.

Flow Arts and Hoop Dance

Flow Arts and Hoop dance are forms of artistic expression utilizing different props along with body movement to create a dance-like “flow”. This practice is both challenging and rewarding at any age. It helps build hand-eye coordination, body awareness, self confidence, and overall fitness level. In this class students will learn how to spin various flow arts props including hoops, poi, and flags. Students will learn both the basics and more challenging combination tricks (transitions, weaves, hoop illusions, tosses, and jumps.)

Hand Balance

No previous experience required. Recommended prerequisites for this class: None
Perfect your handstand and develop hand balancing skills including: press handstands, flexibility poses and balancing on canes. This is an all ages and skill level class for students interested in simply gaining more upper body strength to those who can hold handstands for hours and are looking for the next level. Proper alignment strength and flexibility are emphasized in each class.

Homeschool

No previous experience required. Recommended prerequisites for this class: None
Our specially developed program for the homeschool set. This is a multi-age, multi-disciplined 2 hour class designed for those that travel a distance to get to us. Students will learn each of the 5 aspects of circus: Aerial Arts, Acrobatics, Balance, Manipulations (juggling) and Clowning. There is heavy emphasis on collaborative play, and student based learning. Focus, concentration and body awareness are an added bonus of circus arts development. Homeschoolers will get significant time to practice skills on silks, trapeze, mini-tramp, tight wire, stilts, beginner unicycle, acrobatics and so much more. Teamwork is highly encouraged in our warm and welcoming environment.

Hoops

No previous experience required. Recommended prerequisites for this class: None

This class is a fun, low impact cardio workout that develops skills, performance quality and musicality. Learn to hoop on body in positions including: waist, knees, chest, neck, feet, elbows, and hands. Learn off body hooping skills such as weaves, tosses, vortex, isolations, body rolls, corkscrew (figure – 8), palm spins, and jump throughs. This class will also begin a brief introduction into doubles hooping skills will include: 2-beat weaves, windmills, corkscrews, and simple double on body hooping.

Intro to Theatre

No previous experience required. Recommended prerequisites for this class: None
This class is designed to introduce students to the wonders of the theatre! Focusing on performance, this class will teach students acting, storytelling, stage presence, voice, movement and more! Whether the students has theatre experience or not, this class is loaded with encouragement and a positive environment to cultivate confidence on the stage, and having a commanding stage presence.

Intro to Aerials

No previous experience required. Recommended prerequisites for this class: None
Students are typically required to take this or a sampler before taking any level 1 Aerials course.
Filled with loads of encouragement, this is a class specifically designed for younger students that want a basic beginner introduction to all of our aerial apparatuses. Students will learn to climb and pose on silks, safely mount and perform tricks on our static trapeze and have time discovering the beauty of Lyra (hoop apparatus that hangs like a trapeze). Students spend about 4 sessions on each element. Class begins with a dynamic warm up and closes with class feedback and constant positive enthusiasm from our coach!

Juggling: Beginner

No previous experience required. Recommended prerequisites for this class: None
Learn to juggle for the first time, brush up on old skills, or sharpen tricks. This class is for beginner level working with a variety of props including: scarves, balls, rings, and clubs. This class also teaches the beginning steps to Chinese Yo Yo (Diabolo), Devil Sticks, Feather Balance and Spinning Plates. Learn a wide variety of props and tricks to amaze your family and friends!

Juggling: Intermediate/Advanced

For jugglers who have 1-2 semesters of juggling or manipulations. Should have strong 3 ball cascade, and working on a 4 ball juggle. Prior experience with clubs and rings a plus. This class works with a variety of props including: balls, rings, clubs, cigar boxes, odd props and more. Club passing is also taught and group patterns introduced.

Lyra 1 Adults

Lyra is a elegant circle that is suspended from a single point. In this beginner class you will learn how to move from different positions with grace and ease while gaining strength and control. The class starts with a dynamic warm-up and focuses on the fundamental skills of aerial lyra including; inversions, pullovers, balances, flexibility skills and spinning. There is an emphasis on technique as well as performance quality in the execution of each skill. Pre-requisites include a sampler class, or permission from the coach teaching the class.

Lyra 1 kids/teens

This class is for students with prior aerial lyra experience. We will start with a dynamic warm-up and focus on more advanced skills including; dynamic movement, strength skills, rolls, transitions, sequencing and of course a lot of spinning. There is a very strong emphasis on technique as well as performance quality in the execution of each skill. The class finishes with conditioning and a deep stretch.
Recommended prerequisites for this class: Minimum of 4 aerial semesters and can execute the following skills with core control and solid technique

Mommy and Me: Various Ages

Discover the amazing world of circus with your baby! As your baby explores the circus arts, they will improve coordination, enhance balance skills, and further develop social, and cognitive functioning through our weekly circus adventures! Parent or guardian must participate with baby, and baby must be within the age requirement of the particular time slot. This class runs in 6 week increments.

Movement

No previous experience required. Recommended prerequisites for this class: None
This new class focuses on the student’s body awareness, moving through space, and physical improvisation. Through techniques like Fly Low, Lecoq and Feldenkrais, this class will train students physically as well as creatively in movement both in performance and for conditioning. This class will begin with creative group conditioning, various movement exercises, and then ending in a group stretch and/or massage. Great for gaining body awareness and conditioning!

Partner Acrobatics

No previous experience required. Recommended prerequisites for this class: None
Come fly and support at our Partner Acrobatics class. Learn the basics of partner acro including different poses and transitions between them. Also learn to hop and turn in mid-air! The ultimate goal is to attain a two-high, and various transitions in and out of it.

Partner Movement

No previous experience required. Recommended prerequisites for this class: None
Learn the basics of dynamic movement and partner dance through this brand new class! This class will focus on partner work influenced by Contact Improvisation, partner dancing, partner and group lifts. Each class will start with creative duo conditioning, and end with duo stretching and/or massage. This is a great class for those looking to learn partner movement, learn about anatomy and gain physical awareness with a friend!

Rope All Ages

In this course we will be exploring the fundamentals of rope and spanish web. We will learn different ways to climb the rope, multiple wraps both from the ground and in the air, how to ‘set’ the web (adding tension to the web for another person) and support each other in the air while climbing, doing tricks and using the hand loop. Explore the rope as a unique apparatus! It’s not quite a fabric and not quite a trapeze, but we will have a lot of fun playing and climbing!
Required to have at least taken one session of Silks 2. Other required prerequisites for this class: minimum of 2 aerial semesters, a solid level 2 in skills and can execute the following with core control and solid technique:

  • invert in the air from hollow body hang
  • climb to the top of rope/fabric
  • 5 pull-ups

Silks 1 Adults

This beginner class starts with a dynamic warmup and focuses on the fundamental skills of aerial silks, including; climbs, foot wraps, wrist wraps, inversions and flexibility skills. There is a strong emphasis on technique as well as performance quality in the execution of each skill. This class is filled with enthusiasm and encouragement from the instructors and students! It is possible that some hammock skills will be worked on in this class, however, the main focus will be silks. Prerequisites require at least an aerial sampler class.

Silks 1 Kids/Teens

This beginner class starts with a dynamic warmup and focuses on the fundamental skills of aerial silks, including; climbs, foot wraps, wrist wraps, inversions and flexibility skills. There is a strong emphasis on technique as well as performance quality in the execution of each skill. This class is filled with enthusiasm and encouragement from the instructors and students! It is possible that some rope and hammock skills will be worked on in this class, however, the main focus will be silks. Prerequisites require at least an aerial sampler class.

Silks 2 Adults or Kids/Teens

This class is for students with prior aerial silks experience. We will start with a dynamic warm-up and focus on advanced skills including; “fancy” climbs, spinning skills, swings, orbits, dives and drops. Basic intro to the following drops: 360, star, salto, star drop add-ons, and continuing to develop more intricate poses. There is a strong emphasis on technique as well as performance quality in the execution of each skill. The class finishes with conditioning, a deep stretch, and lots of encouragement. Required prerequisites for this class: minimum of 4 aerial semesters and can execute the following skills with core control and solid technique:

  • Climb to top twice in a row (on either side)
  • Clean invert in the air
  • foot locks in the air
  • crossback straddle
  • hip key

Recommended

  • 3-5 Pull-ups

Silks 3 Adults or Kids/Teens

This class is for the advancing student with prior aerial silks experience. We will start with a dynamic warm-up and focus on advanced skills including; “fancy” climbs, spinning skills, swings, orbits, dives and drops. There is a very strong emphasis on technique as well as performance quality in the execution of each skill. The class finishes with conditioning and a deep stretch. It is possible that some rope and hammock skills will be worked on in this class, however, the main focus will be silks. Required prerequisites for this class: minimum of 6 aerial semesters and can execute the following skills with core control and solid technique:

  • climb to top twice in a row on both sides
  • same-side, and opposite side climb
  • invert in the air with straight knees
  • dancer’s locks
  • crossback straddle
  • hip-key
  • s-wrap
  • double star drop
  • salto drop

Strongly Recommended

  • 5-10 Pull-ups

Silks 4

This class is our highest silks skill level class to date!! We will start with a dynamic warm-up and focus on advanced skills including; “fancy” climbs, spinning skills, swings, orbits, dives and drops. There is a very strong emphasis on technique as well as performance quality in the execution of each skill. The class finishes with conditioning and a deep stretch. It is possible that some rope and hammock skills will be worked on in this class, however, the main focus will be silks. Required prerequisites for this class: completion of Silks 3, minimum of 6 aerial semesters and can execute the following skills with core control and solid technique:

  • straight elbow straddle climb to top on both sides
  • same-side, and opposite side climb
  • invert in the air with straight knees
  • dancer’s locks
  • crossback straddle
  • 10 pullups
  • hip-key
  • s-wrap
  • double star drop
  • salto drop

Trap 1

Come learn the basics of static trapeze! We will start with a dynamic warm-up and focus on trapeze basics including; getting on and off the bar, strength skills, rolls, transitions, and of course lots of time in the ropes. There is a very strong emphasis on technique as well as performance quality in the execution of each skill. The class finishes with conditioning and a deep stretch. At least one sampler class required for Trap 1 or a coach’s permission.

Trap 2

This class is for students with prior static trapeze experience. We will start with a dynamic warm-up and focuses on more advanced skills including; dynamic movements, strength skills, rolls, transitions, sequencing and of course lots of time in the ropes. There is a very strong emphasis on technique as well as performance quality in the execution of each skill. The class finishes with conditioning and a deep stretch. Must have completed a Trapeze 1 to take class. Recommended prerequisites for this class: minimum of 4 aerial semesters and can execute the following skills with core control and solid technique:

Required

  • invert (pike) under the bar from hollow body hang (no jumping/pushing off floor or touching feet to bar)

Recommended

  • pullover to front balance for 30 seconds
  • 3-5 pull ups

Trap 3

This class is for students with prior static trapeze experience. We will start with a dynamic warm-up and focuses on more advanced skills including; dynamic movements, strength skills, rolls, transitions, sequencing and of course lots of time in the ropes. There is a very strong emphasis on technique as well as performance quality in the execution of each skill. The class finishes with conditioning and a deep stretch.

Required prerequisites for this class: minimum of 6 aerial semesters and can execute the following skills with core control and solid technique:

  • unassisted knee beats
  • pullover to front balance for 30 seconds

Junior Troupe

This troupe is enrollment by invite only from the Circus Place coaches and staff.
Junior Variety Troupe is for beginner to intermediate level students with a desire to work on different disciplines within a troupe setting. The mission of Junior Troupe is to build an ensemble of students with diverse skills who will collaborate with each other in act creation. Along with their area of specific interest, your child will have the opportunity to learn the basics of all circus arts.This class is a great introduction to performance while working with students of the same level. Junior Troupe is also expected to ‘give back’ to the community through local performances and volunteer opportunities.

Tumbling/ Acro/ Pyramids

No previous experience required. Recommended prerequisites for this class: None
This all ages/levels class focuses on beginner tumbling (forward rolls) through intermediate skills (round-off back handspring). Emphasis is also put on circus acrobatics, springboards, dive rolls, hoop diving as well as partner acrobatics. Different varieties of human pyramids will also be explored where the whole class works together as a team!

Unicycle: Beginner

No previous experience required. Recommended prerequisites for this class: None
One hour, one wheel, tons of fun. Whether you are looking to learn how to ride for the first time, or want to continue to build your skills, this class is for you. You will first learn to mount and balance on the unicycle then slowly build up to riding freely. This class is filled with lots of encouragement! We will skill build, play games, work drills and create obstacle courses.

Unicycle: Intermediate to Advanced

This class is for students who already have prior experience in Unicycling. This class will expand on various Unicycle tricks, as well as more intricate group patterns. Students may also have the opportunity to train on giraffes. The required prerequisites include riding smoothly for at least 30 meters, turning unassisted, and idling. Recommended skills include riding backwards, free mounting, and previous pattern experience is a plus. Ask a coach if this class is right for your current skill level!

Voice

All are welcome and no previous vocal training (singing or otherwise) required for this class.
Brand new to Circus Place, this class will focus on helping students find their voice. Whether it’s for singing, acting, teaching, or public speaking, this class will focus on greatly improving the strength, stamina, flexibility and quality of the voice. Using both physical and vocal exercises, this class will improve student’s voices from the breath to sound, and will also teach proper vocal health and maintenance.
